It’s been a few days since my last post and, despite the content drought, there has actually been an increase in traffic. Perhaps this means I should shut up more often
That said, today is a pretty important day for j2fi.net as it’s been officially confirmed that 20,000 unique visitors have come to this site. This number does not include all the bots that scrape and index my content, nor does it take into consideration the people that visit from different IPs … since I can’t really track that data unless someone leaves a comment. Even then, it’s not something I care to spend much time tracking. I considered embedding a quick little function in this post that would let people know what visitor number they are to this site (for example, Nick Ramsay at LongCountdown is visitor number 3,471 and fellow Canadian Michael McKinlay is visitor number 18,912), but that’d look horrible if read through an RSS reader. If you’d like to know how to query your WordPress database for this information and you use FireStats, I would be more than happy to send you the SQL query.
So earlier today I received an email from a reader that asked whether I was getting out of blogging. Considering how I haven’t gone this long without a post since February, I can kind of understand the comment, but I don’t think I’ll be leaving any time soon. There are still lots of opinions and misguided assumptions and predictions that can be written and shared here. Hopefully there will be some valid content in the mix, too.
I will admit that I should have scheduled some pre-written posts for release, but I wasn’t looking forward to the potential backlash from one of the more controversial articles unless I was around to respond to the potential comments immediately. We’ve seen first hand that it’s never good to write something inflammatory and then avoid answering comments
That said, I’m currently working on a series of projects with my ever-talented wife and we hope to get something online in the coming year. With our wedding ceremony only six months away, the goal is to have your .jp site up and running before the start of next Autumn. Woot!
On that note, it’s time to relax and get some rest. It’s been a long week and Ineed to meet some family this weekend. Hopefully there won’t be another 4-day drought anytime soon
Good to have you back! 20,000 visitors? So, if your blog were a Sim City population, I think you’d be developing a new source of energy now!
Looking forward to the delayed, controversial post!
There are quite a few controversial posts that I’ve decided not to publish for one reason or another … self-censorship can be a bit of a pain, but considering how some potential employers could Google or Yahoo my name in the future, I’m a little concerned about what things they might read.
Oddly enough, I’ve never actually said my full name on this site, but I’m the first result with Yahoo and on the first page of Google … beating out so many other people with the same name. I wonder where the high-PR links with my name are coming from. Technorati? Alexa? Google’s own data?
Oh, well. It’s all good.
Hey, you never know, your blog could help you land a job if the recruiter agrees with what you say!
